Default Whalon Lake in Naperville/Bolingbrook

I'm thinking about going to Whalon Lake for the first time this week. It's located on Royce rd, near weber road in the Bolingbrook/Naperville area. Ill be taking my 14' boat. Does anyone have any feedback on the fishing out there. Thanks

Its an old quarry and I have seen pics of huge smallies coming out of there but the 2 times I have fished it had no luck. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I went out today without the boat to check it out & only managed to pull in a handful of blugills. No bass this time. I am def going back with my boat to search for those smallies.

Default Whalon Lake

I cannot confirm Smallmouth in Whalon. I've caught Largemouth, Bluegill, and Channel Cats.
Colors that have worked for me: Pumpkin/natural worms and twister tails (better yet Gulp or Power bait). Purple rigged worms with a small plain white trailer on the back hook. Red or pink jighead with white tail. Try suspnding under a bobber and drift/row the weedlines. South and West shores seem best.
If above fails, there's always a crawler on a plain hook tossed into the weeds and slowly retrieved.
Good Luck!

Which lake is this? I see quite a few located in the that general area, and my kayak is getting feisty for some new water, especially with SMB!

CPR!

from Lockport take 53 just north of Boughton to Royce Rd. (first left). Entrance is about 2 miles down on the left. You'll see the lake off to the left before you get to the entrance.

Good size lake for Yak fishing. I love hitting it in mine, but still haven't gotten out this year...GRRRRR.

Never heard of or seen any walleyes. Smallies, yes. Haven't gotten into any size, but they're fun for sure. Decent Largemouth also, but the lake is much easier fished from a boat given the weeds closer to shore. Later on it gets really tough from shore.

The district has stocked LM Bass, Bluegill, and Channel Catfish in the lake.

Future plans include Walleye and crappie (althought I have heard a few people say they have already caught crappie out there ??? )

The IDNR stocked a few smallies, and others must have gotten in through the valve connecting to the river. (along with a ton of carp )
