I'm back again. I think its finally time to start getting hardcore...
Friday I hit some park water in Bloomingdale with basstard since it was such a beautiful day, but I didn't get any action. bassedhard got one before I arrived at least.
Sunday morning I took SassyGirl out for some fish action but we left the house an hour later than I planned cos you know how it is trying to get a woman out of the house on time. We started at the Des Plaines Conservation Area which was nice to see not completely choked with weeds, but no action there.
Next we hit Heidecke since I've been reading here that the action is pretty hot right now. The parking lot for shore fishing was completely full so maybe other people have been reading the same thing. I don't usually fish with bait, but all the posts say big cats and stripers are coming on raw shrimp so we set up a rod with that while we casted blade baits and lipless cranks. No action. I think being stuck to one area with a rod planted didn't help. Didn't see anybody else get fish either though.
Finally we hit the DuPage River and got some action. Ended up with 13 fish between us:
1 Largemouth Bass
4 Smallmouth Bass
5 Rock Bass
The Rock Bass was pretty cool since I've never caught one before (and I played rock bass in a band before I moved here.) My very first Rock Bass:
Really nice sized Crappie:
And since I was already down South Monday morning I went back by myself and landed 18 fish:
3 Largemouth Bass
6 Smallmouth Bass
8 Rock Bass
All fish both days came on 1/8oz jigheads with either a 3" Yamamoto Curly Tail Grub, Mister Twister Curly Tail Grub or a Sassy Shad. Fished mostly on a steady retrieve low and slow, but some by jigging the bottom.
