I heading out for my first spring perching trip tomorrow. Going to try and jig up a limit.
Will put a report regardless of the outcome. See you out there!
Arrived at Diversey at 5:15AM and fished until 7:30. Water was a dingy gray green with visibility at 2 feet or so. Took a while to jig up an alewife on a Sabiki rig and bait up my bottom rig in case there were any salmon or trout still hanging around. Jigged plastics -Finesse minnows, shad, etc. with the UL outfit and only caught one goby. Not a single perch hit my jig during the whole time. With the strong south wind, the current was really moving. We need more baitfish, warmer water and cleaner water for the perch to move in.
Stopped by the Montrose Shoe to scout what was happening. It was emptying fast at 8:00am. Salmon/ trout guys left empty handed. Water clarity was also bad. Didn't visit the inner harbor but did notice some guys perching there. Anway, I'm going to try again next weekend. Good luck to those of you who will be fishing during the week. Hopefully your luck will be better.
