Default Muskie Leaders

Part time Muskie fisherman, mostly a couple of times a year up at leach lake.

I also saltwater fish a couple of months down in the Fort Meyers area.

Down there I primarily use 30-40 lb fluorocarbon tied directly to hooks and lures with no snap lock but with a swivel connecting the leader and braid. Have caught fish up to 30 lbs that are pretty toothy and with the exception of mackerel I rarely have bite offs.

Does anyone tie a flourocarbon leader direct to the lure for Muskie?

Just thinking that a heavier fluorocarbon leader might provide a more natural look than the heavier snaps I traditionally use.

Would appreciate any thoughts or advice

Muskies are not bothered by your boat. What makes you think that a leader is going to be a problem? By the way, fluoro leaders are not invisible, plus any musky or pike can easily slice through 40 pound test.

Use the standard 100# fluoro leaders, unless you need a hard wire leader for certain hard baits.

The leaders will not negatively impact your action. I can attest to the previous statement about musky not even being afraid of props. During trips to Eagle Lake Canada, I have had countless follows and hookups on figure 8s, in the prop wash while running a small jon boat with no trolling motor.

100# fluoro leader for nearly every scenario.

Most guys use 80# braid with the fluoro leader. I've never heard of anyone spooling straight fluorocarbon for musky.
