I have been up here fishing Lake Vermillion MN all week for bass and walleye. In my "new moon marble eyes" thread, we have been doing pretty well trolling at night for big walleye. But we also have been catching them all day long, casting for them and for bass. Middle of the day, blue bird sky? They are still in 8 FOW on the prowl!
Rock bars, points, gravel flats, are all holding big day time walleye. Active fish seem to be in less than 12 FOW, and we have even see fish cruising as shallow as 3-4. Big 5" grubs on 1/4 oz heads has been the top day time producer.
A 30" fish is one of my lifetime goals. Have caught a ton of big eyes, but never cracked the 30 mark. Even on this trip, we have caught probably a dozen so far 25-28"s... But the 30 has eluded me all these years. I atleast came a little closer yesterday afternoon. Mid-day, overcast, light rain, with the pattern I mentioned above.
My buddy lands this beast. 31" on the dot. Biggest eye I have ever seen live. Brings me that much closer to my own.
