Made it out with Dogfish Dave today from 9:30 A.M. to about 4:00 P.M. Started out in fog and ended up in sun. There seemed to a period of time around noon where the fishing was quite good. Once the sun came out at 2:00 P.M. fishing really slowed. We had north/northeast winds from 5 to 15 just about most of the day. Water temps were variable and the rattle trap bite seemed to be non existent however the buzz bait bite seemed to be working for the first time this year. We caught fish on weighted texas rigged plastics and unweighted minnow imitators, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits. We caught about 35 fish between the two of us with the biggest about 17" and a good number around 15". During the time around noon there seemed to be a bass on windblown points you could catch on a buzzbaits, 50' farther down in a gap in the bulrushes you could get one on texas rig, and 50' after that the unweighted minnow would work. The wind was blowing into this area.
Frogs and lizzards were the ticket at Bass lake in the north unit and I caught six and lost 2. They were all caught in the long weedy channel adjacent to the ramp w / 4 bass on a Z-man floating popper frog within 20 min. at the beginning and the last 2 on a Z-man floating lizzard texas rigged as I was heading off the lake no big-uns but all 6 were about 2 lbs. males and were very tight to cover and at the same time there were many big carp in their spawnnig season. Water temps were back to 68 and it sure was nice to see water levels up --- it was even a pleasure at the ramp with the higher water levels.
