1) Where'd you get the auger?

2) Is the drill's chuck 3/8 or 1/2 inch ?

Thanks!

Lee's Bait in Elk Grove. It's your standard Lazer 6" hand auger with the handle removed. You need to either buy or build an auger adapter like the Nimrod model to attach the auger to the drill.

You'll need a 1/2" chuck on a high-torque drill that has the low RPM/high torque setting.

Nimrod is one adapter thats available. I bought one at fish tech last week. I returned it the next day because I purchased an icemaster on line that same night The icemaster went for $24.99 plus $5 shipping. fish tech was cool about it. they did have only 2 nimrods left as of thursday The ice master has a flange with a bearing set for the shaft to spin in. The flange is so you can bungee it to your drill, Their site notes the possibility of a keyless chuck occaisionally vibrating lose(open) as a result of vibration caused by drilling. (Ive had this happen with drills before) If that happens as or after youve penetrated the ice completely, your auger may go for a swim leeaving you holding your drill. Take a look www.Icemasteradapter.com. .

Or you can build your own. /coolsmoke I posted this previously, but it's burried in someone else's thread from a long time ago.

What I came up with works in conjunction with my Nimrod and was copied from the Icemaster. It looked like the original Icemaster had two plastic discs that scraped on each other. I wet for a quality smooth-as-silk bearing instead.

======================

I started with a roller from an exercise treadmill.

Cut off the end which also housed a nice bearing.

The Nimrod fits nearly perfectly into the bearing with a little filing on the inside of the bearing.

A strong bungee completes the Nimrod/retainer and keeps an unchucked auger from dropping down your hole.

Unlike some of my home-made attempts at auger adapters, the real Nimrod never comes unchucked for me, but you still need the insurance of some kind of disc or retainer to prevent losing your auger.

I thought I'd bump this thread back up for the 2011 / 2012 season as the post was buried on page 7 already. I know numerous guys have put this to good use and hopefully more can for this season. 8:)

Ron, do you think I could use my 18 volt Dewalt with the 24 volt power pack without damaging the drill?

It's a DC motor so I think it should be able to handle it. Mine's 19.2V and I've had no problems or signs of burnout or smoke :)11 or anything else.

So this really is a brilliant idea, and it could be a profitable one too! If I have the drill, batteries, and cooler, what would you charge to turn my drill into this piece of awesomeness? I'm not very electrically inclined!

I do not have a 24v charger so I just charge them individually with my Vexilar charger or with the charging station I built using those chargers I've been selling. I have a bank of six chargers sitting atop my beer fridge, all plugged into an outlet strip. I flip the switch on the strip and they all come to life and I'm charging six batteries at once. :)31

I have a old theaded lazer auger. How do I get it apart to attach a ice master adapter? It just doesn't want to budge. Thanks.
