hammered em down in the bootheel

Postby Mother » Sun Dec 12, 2010 1:26 pm

I think we are pretty much done around here for the ducks. Well...at least in my spots. Luckily, I have a bunch of good buddies down in the Missouri bootheel that invite me when it's good. I drove down thursday night for a friday and saturday morning hunt. Had to be back for a party Saturday night.

These boys hae a flooded rice field that kills about 600 birds a year. We definately kept in line with their average. 7 of us hunting killed close to a limit on friday, then Saturday 6 of us killed a limit by 10:00 am.

I guess you gotta travel to kill ducks at this time of year.

Team names are gay and sad. Almost as gay and sad as duck and fishing diaries.

4 drakes and 2 geese, I try not to shoot hens especially when I have options.

Waterfowl Mafia is their group of guys who love waterfowl hunting.

Gay and sad? C'mon man I was just posting info, like you. Why fire shots?[/u]

Gun barrel stickers, trailers that look like billboards, clothing with names all over, camo sunglasses, black hoodies, e-bay bands on lanyards all make me sick.

Whats wrong Mother do you need a hug? Just jealous your not part of the team of upset that these "teams" are doing better than you. I think its great for those in it and great for our sport. Without guys and gals that passionate about there hobby our / their hobbies would be know where close to what it is today. Sponsorships billboards stickers all a way of promoting the products of our sports thus getting people involved more. Oh by the way "MOM" live what you preach, "If you can't say anything nice then don"t say anything at all"

After making my last post I was thinking some more on this subject and it was bothering me so here we go. Teams in waterfowling and fishing along with fishing and hunting diaries are a very important tool to these sports. I tournament fish and keep a diary of places I fish when and where conditions and baits used. This is a tool that I use for helping me to remember things I have done in the past. Don't have time to prefish then just look in your "diary" or juornal for that lake and look at years past with similar conditions and hopefuly that will give you a head start or at least an Idea of what to do.

As for teams why not. for someone to bash teams to me is something that I don't understand. Team as defined in the dictionary "A set of workers or players competing in a game" Isn't that what we do when we go out with friends and family hunting? We are competing against our game being ducks deer or fish. There are many "Teams" groups and clubs out there. Take for instance all the Bass clubs out there competing for there cause. Heck look at in your case Ducks Unlimited. They have stickers and products with there logo on it and they are a team that is competing for there cause but just at a much larger level. So to bash a local "Team" or group of guys for doing what they love and being vocal about it and giving themselves a name shame on you! I'm sure that I'll have people upset at me for what I have said but really why do we hate the ones that get together and do something they love. Where in the rule book does it say you have to hunt and fish alone!

Fin & Feather I have to agree with you. I think its kind of cool to be able to tell my son about the stuff that we did and how the weather was and all that stuff. My dad started taking me to canada about 25 years ago and they have a journal that has to be 35 years old. Every year they would record who went and the adventures that followed for the week. I still laugh my azz off when I read that journal. If anything it leaves memories for our families to read when we decide to get old, cant hunt any more or when we croak. If guys didnt have journals then half our history could just be made up. Everyone has an opinion on what brand of this or the way to do that. I guess all us union workers should remove our union stickers because thats probably gay also. Guess I dont really get the point of taking a shot at ya.

On a side bar - Mother - were you guys down near Marston ? I have hunted flooded rice down their a couple of times and it was a blast. Wish we had something like that in our backyard.
