coyote hunt yesterday (first timer)

Postby jasons8387 » Mon Jan 10, 2011 4:26 pm

My dad just purchased a home with 7 acres behind it that borders a huge, i mean huge, corn field. He doesnt own the corn field but the farmer does not mind that we shoot coyotes out of it, just not deer. There are several fence rows and tons of timber surrounding it with a big irrigation ditch running through the middle. The guy who used to live there said there is a healthy coyote population. Anyways we tried for the first time yesterday and saw one several hundred yards away. Did see about 30 deer in the field though, which was encouraging for next years bow season.(they have to go through our property too, right?) Anyways we were hunting out of an 8x8 tower stand with glass sliding windows. This elevated stand sits about 20 yards inside a treeline overlooking the field, I can see a TON from in there. We used one of those digital game calls with the stressed rabbit call and coyote howls. Anyways, was happy to see one and see the deer but is there any other tips a newcomer should know? Im fairly certain there are alot of them around, I think my techniques just need refined. Thanks for any help.

Those yotes are very wary and may have been alerted yo that 8x8 stand or your scent. Try picking a spot downwind from where you expect them to come from and use a natural blind.

There is so much to yote hunting that would be impossible to post.

Just remember not to use your stand on a daily basis. Move around your fence line. In full camo. If you call in a yote & miss him, he'll NEVER come back. So if you shoot, make sure you WAK'em good.

A good rifle that would be called a 'Tack Driver.' BEST SHOTS ARE OVER THE 100YD. MARK.

One can wear out a spot in a matter of days if your not cautious. Dem buggers will lay up 100/150yds. away & just sit there watching the source of the call. Move your hand & boom, your BUSTED. They'll NEVER come to that call again or that spot.

This time of year they are hungry, & prowl around at any given time day or night.

Here is a good link that I would say is my bible. It will keep you busy for months. Downloads, tactics & much more. Study this link, read ALOT. &

WAK&STAK'em.

Carefull now, it can get habit forming.
