Just got off the cell phone with my nephew. He's down fishing Meredosia Lake off the Illinois river and is doing fantastic on the old papermouths. Most fish are 9-10 inches and are hitting tube jigs just under the surface in 3 fow. The lagoon off the river (boat ramp by Pere Marquette park) has also been productive, except the fish are a little smaller, and you have to fight this half-tame pelican each time you reel one in. He originally went down there to fish for sauger, but the river was a little high. (We already know its muddy)He still insists there are sauger down there! Thursday they are headed for Alton on the Mississippi to fish for Blue Cats. He also claims that 7 asian carp have tried to hitch a ride in the boat, I guess he chopped one up and is going to try it as cutbait. I don't think this is illegal, but with the numbers of those damn things I wouldn't be suprised if they regenerate like a flatworm. Stay tuned for an update maņana.
