need some help finding a place for me and oung family to fish and camp??? would like to find some remote camp sites to tent. would love to find near or on a lake with good fishing?? helpppppp???
If you need to stay close by I would second Starved Rock State Park. Also, Shabbona Lake State Park, and Kankakee River State Park.
They're not exactly what I would call remote, but their sites are usually separated by some trees/woods. This is as opposed to the KOA's, Jellystones, etc., where you are right on top of each other with little or no privacy.
I vote for Morrison Rockwood State park near Morrison and Sterling Illinois. It feels like you are in another state. There is a 77 acre lake called Lake Carlton with boat rental. They have crappie, gills, walleye largemouth and musky in it. There is a bait shop with boat and pontoon rentals, and small restuarant there also. Campground is right around the corner from the lake. Check it out on the IDNR web site.
I think you will like it. Once there you can even visit Palisades State park.
Buckhorn state park on the wisconsin river/ castle rock lake north of the dells about 1/2 hour you can put your tent wright next to the river inn the woods it is great primitive camping you will love it
I would bring a Blue Rino mosquito vac, some thermacells and some extra cans of deet.
Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Gov. dodge in WI is about 3 -3.5 hours away, and is beautiful.
cool stuff nearby to entertain the family as well (House on the rock)
Go three hours east of chicago, you can enjoy some of the best rustic /tent camping around at Deep Lake campground, part of Yankee Springs State Park in MI. fantastic bike /hiking trails, nice lake, big wooded campsites.
I've camped at Kank and Rockford, and they were not nearly as nice, and not really set up for family fishing and big hikes.
Try Willow Slough in Indiana. 1200 acres of water to fish in. Boat rentals with or without electric motor. About now you will be all by yourself as most of the campers will not be out when the nights are below 65. Plenty of fish. I have seen northern over 36 and they have been reported at 44 inches. Plenty of bass and tons of pan fish. If you want to sight in your shotgun or rifle they have ranges from 25 to 100 yards that are free. CAUTION NO HANDGUNS for most Illinois residents. It is at route 41, mile post 230. One hour south of Cabelas in Hammond.
