bummer, I assume you are talking about Will Co.? I almost thought that one was in the bag talking with my buddies from McHenry Co. conservation dist. Did they give reasoning why?
Some people just dont get it. Administer birth control pills to does....if it costs money then it costs money...wth. These are the same brain waves that we rely on to run the local government. No wonder illinois is such a crap hole when it comes to having high unemployment rates and such a huge deficit and being clueless on hunting. I am so glad for all those years when I lived in Will county I could pay those high taxes so I could not use the forest preserve for things I would like to do or drive by a huge forest preserve and quary full of fish off of rt.6 in Channahon that no is allowed to use. But hey the great residents keep on giving them referendum money to buy bike trails. Ok Im off the soap box.
We live in a state that currently has a $5.7billion budget beficit, we are laying off teachers in some of the top school districts in the country, and some brainiac thinks it is a good idea to spend upwards of $500 a deer every couple years to give them birth control??? What planet am I on???? It always amazes me when this type of discussion comes up being hunting or fishing, the opponents are the ones who never seem to remember who pays for the upkeep of their natural resources...it would be the sale of licences to the sportsman. They also seem to be the first ones to cry the loudest when the deer eat all the flowers in their yard, or they hit one with their car yet oppose the most logical solution. I grew up in Missouri, just outside St Louis and they have the same problem with the deer in the otherwise closed to hunting forest preserves. However, they set up a number of "Managed Bow Hunts" each fall where they predetermine the safest and most effective number of hunters for a specific tract of land and choose who can bowhunt there during a specific 2 or 3 week period via lottery system. It requires a special managed hunt permit that generates additional revenue over and above regular permit sales. Depending on the herd size and demographic they typically do an earn a buck program, 2 does earns the right to shoot a buck, plus typically no limit per hunter on doe permits that can be purchsed. Along with that they get the local processers involved in what they call "Share the Harvest" in order to encourage more deer to be taken you can spend $20 to have it processed under this program and, I assume the state subsidizes a portion as well, and the meat is donated to local shelters. Everybody wins, revenue is generated, hunters get to hunt, the herd is thinned and the homeless are fed.
It really irritates me to realize that the bird watchers, bikers, hikers and drug dealers are the ones that benefit most from these vast forest preserves rather than the ones who actually contribute via permit purchses to their upkeep and maintenance.
My biggest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it
It might be $12 Billion, I just googled IL State Budget Deficit, and 5.7 was the first number I saw. Where it goes...funny how they never seem tell you that, maybe they are already giving birth control to deer somewhere, or botox to squirrels, maybe breast implants to the local geese, or contact lenses to raccoons...who knows.
My biggest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it
This state is all about payola.Forget the income it could raise, forget jobs if done on a permanent program. If you want anything done in ill you buy it.The only state that will not allow racinos because the riverboats are the biggest pollitical contributor.Forget jobs forget increased taxes as in all other states, our pollies are all bought and paid for.If you check where the money goes from fishing and hunting licenses and stamps its sickening.THey are using the outdoorsmen to clean bird crap off of statues in Chicago.Talk to a conservation officer off the record they will echo this rant. we go nowhere in this country till the phrase pollitically correct is obsolete
not dead yet. the vote was from the commisioners that make a reccomendation. The actual vote that is made by the will county board that makes it a definate yes or no is going to be within the next 2 weeks.
You sent the following email to the Forest Preserve District of Will County:
has there been a final decision on hunting by the board?
No, a final decision has not yet been made.
At its May meeting, the Operations Committee of the Board of Commissioners took several votes on elements of the Deer Management Plan:
1) By a vote of 6-4, they approved a public hunting option to the Deer Management Plan.
2) By a vote of 10-0, they chose to remove bow hunting from a public hunting option.
3) By a vote of 6-4, they approved the use of shotguns as a public hunting option.
4) By a vote of 9-0-1 (one abstention), they approved the use of sharpshooters as part of the plan.
The committee requested additional information from staff for its June meeting. The committee meets on June 2, and if they make a recommendation on the Deer Management Plan, the Board of Commissioners will likely vote on the entire plan at its June meeting on Thursday, June 10.
We will post all updates on the Deer Management Plan as soon as possible. I recommend you visit our Web site, ReconnectWithNature.org, in the days following June 10.
