NP 1/4

Postby bunker25 » Tue Jan 04, 2011 5:12 pm

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday it was very busy out there at 11am, today 3 people out there. I did not have a good feeling, but I only had an hour so I thought I would give it a shot. There was some open water down by Riva's so I headed over there. First cast, BAM, a real nice 9" perch. Toss a second cast, put the rod down to put the first one in the bag, and BAM another hit. It actually pulled my rod 4-5 inches toward the edge. Turned out to be 10"er. Holy crap, I finally got here at the right time. "I am going to nail them today", I thought to myself. 30 minutes later not another bite.
So I decided to go back to more traditional NP methods. Put the rod down and watch closely. It worked much better. Finished with a total of 8 keepers, (8"+). Not bad for a hour, but man I thought I was in for one of those days. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

You're right - yesterday was better; I limited out yesterday.
Today I fished near red metal building, since Monday it was dead near Riva's. I should have gone back there!

I was using my ice rod again, and managed only 8 keepers between 7:45 and 9:30 am. One was 12" and she had two BIG chunks of shrimp in her belly. I suspect someone using a crappie rig lost their bait to this fish this morning! I nailed her on a tiny ice jig with a #12 hook tipped with cut bait piece 1/8" x 1/2". My rod tip barely moved while she was snacking.
