2011 Trips Pics / This week Heidecke 4/12

Postby Wallidave » Mon Apr 04, 2011 10:02 pm

Work has been very busy and I haven't been out all that much. Government forcing me to take 48hrs off after 6 days at work so it was time
to do some fishing :-D

Wasn't expecting such a big drop in temps from yesterdays 60's and I have to say my confidence wasn't all that high when I started. It grew
even worse after the first hour and no hits or even signs of a fish. Wind howling out of the wnw :(

Was using one of my favorite river rigs with pearl plastic that rarely ever fails me...however today it couldn't produce even a snag. Changed to
my favorite brown/orange plastic a top favorite in Quetico but not a big fan of it here in Illinois...that is until today. After changing to the
brown/orange promptly C&R 13 bass in the next 1.5 hours with a total of 21 for the day.

Nice chunky river Largemouths along with some dandy smallies.

Look closely at this next photo this fish was caught and released today. Especially the tail section.

Now the following fish was C&R on October 25, 2010 20 feet from where the other fish was caught. Same fish? I think so?! :-D

Hope to cya again.

Beautiful fish Wallidave
Is "basstiality" the same as sleeping with the fishes?

Hey, thanks guys...
Second day on the river this week. Put the waders on today and got in the water. Water can't be much out of the 40's. About half as many fish as yesterday but all smallmouth today with a half dozen crappies thrown in. Some dandy big female smallmouth:-) along with some smaller males....no beds yet. Weather a little nicer today but still had the river to myself;-) All fish released... :-D Still wouldn't hit my favorite pearl colored plastic...unusual! Now back to w@%$... :-?

Went out to Heidecke today...nice day but a little too sunny, no cloud cover and not crazy about northeast wind...rather have a SSW fishing from shore. Oh well :)

Got out around 11a.m. brought some nightcrawlers with the intent of live bait rigging for walleyes. Caught catfish and stripers on nightcrawlers....threw artificials
for stripers caught walleyes and smallmouth  go figure :-D

Not used to having so many people fish far out on the center dike. When it was a power plant lake just about everyone hung around the bridge and I'd have the whole center
dike up to the limit just about to myself during the week.

Water clarity perfect but low...not too dirty not too clear just the way I like it.

Bringing in lots of slimy moss from bottom...I'm guessing the clear water from the zebra mussels is allowing moss to grow deeper these days :(

Not a whole heck of a lot of people out....maybe 12-15 cars shore access and the few boats spread out.

No carp up shallow yet...too cold still.

Catfish was hungry...had green sunfish in his throat.
