So hard to find a good fishing buddy....

Postby tacotac » Sun Jun 19, 2011 7:04 pm

...One that doesn't mind going out fishing for most of the day. Doesn't complain that it is too hot, doesn't complain about the mosquitoes, doesn't complain about the sun, doesn't complain that it is sprinkling, or even getting a bit dark out, isn't afraid to touch a fish or bait their hook, and doesn't mind taking a bit of walk to get to a good place, or even in general just doesn't grumble that much about whatever. Well, for what/who I've had to put up with, at least I've caught some fish thus far. :/

I am starting to try to get to the mind set just like my brother as he goes he goes alone unless its with me. Thats why i feel like its almost time to step away from fishing and do other things that i have missed out on because of fishing. Sometimes you need to take a look at yourself and not blame others. I have my share of stories as well. I feel your pain my friend. Screw it dude. Times have changed and many guys look at all options and decide what is right for them before they lock into where and with whom they want to go with.

Dude? I'd hang out with more dudes if they looked like her. Stopped depending on others to go fishing in 6th grade. Most just can't hang....

Tx2, you need to get fishing and post some results.

fishing can get lonely! I used to have bunches of guys fishing all different places most everyday. Not so much anymore. I could not find one person willing to hit the fox fathers day morning for a short wade. Depressing. I sold my big boat and got a kayak, now I don't have to look for someone to split gas with! I have experienced the same things with my hunting. Peoples interest wane, and mine does not.

I suppose that I have gotten pretty lucky and found some great fishing buddies.

Same boat here (so to speak).
All of my friends have kids now except me and they have non-stop little league or hockey games/practices.
Money is tight and my best fishing partner (the wife) has been working every weekend.
I fish alone at times but much more prefer company.

Me too. And most of em' came from exchanging pm's on CLF!
The issue is finding people with the same level of desire for fishing or "hardcoreness" or whatever you want to call it. I've been lucky with the friends I've made here.

The exception to meeting someone on CLf is a guy I used to work with who's family has a place on Eagle Lake in Ontario. We worked together for a while before I even knew he liked to fish. In his circle of friends, nobody likes fishing or even wanted to go to Eagle Lake. Can you believe that :o .
Well, he and I got to talking and since we have similar personalities etc. next thing thing I know we're fishing Eagle lake :)14

He now transferred over to be a U.S. Air Marshall but hopefully we'll get to Canada this Fall after he finishes up his training.

.
Lo the angler. He riseth in the morning and upsetteth the whole household. Mighty are his preparations. He goeth forth with great hope in his heart and when the day is far spent, he returneth, smelling of strong drink, and the truth is not in him.

I fish alone a lot now. Just got to be a pain in the butt trying to get things coordinated with the guys I fish with on occasion. Plus awhile back I went through a streak of guys bailing out on me the last minute so I said screw it, I'll go by myself. Turns out I don't mind it at all. Lots more room on the boat! :-D

I still have some of the same fishing friends and friends in general from as long ago as 50 years ! And I have met a lot of great guys on this site that I've gone fishing with as well. It's always nice to have a partner to talk to while fishing but there's something to be said about going it alone as well. Solitude has merit also.

I wouldn't mind fishing alone. Problem is being a girl, it would not be the smartest thing to do.... I have my mother, who does not mind going with me
once in awhile, but she is so busy, and other times making promises to go and canceling them by changing her mind at the last minute, like the weather.
My boyfriend likes to go, and I have been bringing him with me, but he is the one who does most of the complaining. He just isn't in to it as much as I am,
and it is not always fun when you feel like you are pressured to have to "entertain" them, or that you have limited time due to their attention span.
Sometimes I can get my dad to tag along as well, but he gets busy too, he doesn't fish, just sits there and watches as my mom does... So yes,
I don't get out to fish too often, because it seems I am controlled as to when I get to go and how much depending on other people I find to go with me.

Uh-oh, you mentioned you're a girl, now you'll get all kinds of pm's offereing to hook up to go fishing. ;)
And you know how much you can trust what a fisherman says :)20

Will you marry me? :P

Just kidding.
Anyways, I'm not sure where you are from but you should be able to find some safe places to fish alone.
Especially if you just stick to daylight hours.
