Please help Chicago Fisherman!

Postby Stolla » Tue Mar 20, 2012 7:05 am

Good Day,

I'm from South Africa and will visit the US next year...I know i'm planning long before, but that is all part of the fun! It appears the species to target is salmon, steelhead and northern pike. What would the best time be? It appears your spring is suitable to catch all 3 species. Would the last two weeks in March be my best bet? Looks like shore fishing at Lake Michigan is a good bet for salmon. I'm thinking about Vermilion river for Steelhead on my way to Chicago. Any suggestions for Pike around Chicago?

Thanks a mil

Pike - Desplaines River.

Hot in spring and fall. Not for me personally  , but others have great luck, and likely put in more time.

We are having freakishly warm weather right now and the fishing has turned on earlier than usual... If you are planning for next year(obviously, duh John) your late March, April and May target is pretty accurate for Lake Michigan... Our Yellow Perch fishery is world class... You should give that a try too... I bet with a wink and a nod ;) (and a bottle of Scotch wouldn't hurt) you could probably get one of the boat guys to take you out...
Just rermember that Football is played by 300 pound men wearing body armor and trying to kill each other... Soccer is played by skinny men in short pants that fall down and cry whenever someone gets too close...

I would try Bullfrog Lake for line breaking Northern Pike and definately hit the Salmon run in the Vermillion and Wolf rivers, those are top notch salmon and trout fisheries! Great Post.... :)37

Certainly is nice having poorboy on the site.
We shan't openly ever discuss fishing with a float or any organic matter for it is not the way of the Bassalarro.

He shall rise like the phoenix from a Lake Erie livewell.
