Heidecke muskies

Postby bigcarp » Wed Mar 28, 2012 4:38 pm

Anyone fishing Heidecke specifically targeting muskies? Seems like many are caught by "accident" there.

I have fished it, targeting musky, with musky gear several times and never raised a fish. Everyone I've ever talked to who has thrown musky baits out there, seems to mostly be out washing lures.

Most musky caught out there are on x-raps and other cranks, or jigs/soft plastics. I think there is so much small forage in the lake, that the downsized baits are just "matching the hatch"

Strange....but I think it's certainly the size of forage but also that there is SO much of it. These muskies don't have to chase down a large bait for a big meal because they don't have to!

I have to respond to that by asking if you have fished other lures that musky would take....like good sized inlines? Everyone seems to catch them on jigs because everyone is fishing jigs for stripers and walleye. I think if someone really targeted them, they could be caught more regularly. Muskies are ultimate predators. I can't see them turning down an inline. My project this year is to see if I can tap into the muskies by targeting them only. Worth a try and plenty of arm exercise during the process!!! Plan on fishing it hard starting in May.......
