Leech Lake 2012

Postby MJB » Sun May 27, 2012 8:39 am

Thought I would share some insight and pictures from my recent trip to Leech lake in Minn. fishing for Walleye, Northern, Perch (Crappie/Rock Bass).

A little background on the trip, we stayed at Chippewa Lodge, this was my 14th (?) year and we a total of 23 guys on the trip.

Following is a recap and insight to the trip:

Walleye-
Slow bite, we used traditional methods, jigging minnows, throwing deep dive/suspending baits. Only a few keepers caught. (Green and orange jigs with Fatheads)(We fished: The Narrows (off Bear Island), Headquarters, West side of Bear Island)

Perch, Rock Bass, Crappie-
All caught around reed beds off shore jigging green jigs tipped with Fatheads and throwing mini Mepps spinners and or Rapalla's.
We would be on the Perch and drift over a new reed bed and get Crappie, the Rock Bass. Fish all mixed up on the beds from the wind and "cruising" pike and muskie. (Headquarters, Miller Bay, Boy Bay)

Northern-
We fished everywhere for Pike, was a pretty good year, fish came in on traditional spoons and all in the 5-9lb pound range.

Other-
This year I brought a bunch of old tackle and used to fish for the days targeted fish. I had the best success using an old gold Little Doctor spoon (in a hammered finish) and a wooden jointed Heddon Vamp lure in Green scale finish.
The Northern did not know how to react to the jointed lure, they would follow it in and smack it with there snouts, jump over it (literally) grab it in the center and run with it (I took out the middle hood). When the Pike had not been "playing" with it the Bass would immediately hit it. I think I caught 10 Bass on it all at least 4 lbs.

I got this message when I tried to repost your pics... JKS
It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.

Go back into Photobucket and resize them to 600x400 and copy the IMG link... They should pop right up... JKS

You suck at this don't you??? Nice report Mike... I'll see if I can fix your pictures... You might have to resize them in photobucket to 600x400 for them to post... Plus it looks like you linked to a private photo album... I couldn't access your pics even from photobucket...

Do you see all that
and stuff??? That shouldn't be there... It should look like this, except no gaps ... Also notice I changed the brackets type to make this post work... Don't do dat!!!

{img]Your picture URL[/img}
That's it... Nothing more... Photobucket has an IMG code built in.. Just hover your mouse over your picture for 4 options... I think image is the last(bottom) one...
AND RESIZE THE DANG THINGS TO 600X400... THAT'S THE MAX CLF WILL ALLOW IN A POST :)11
