Having Bass in a fish tank is great. It is so much better than having tropical fish. Watching them hide underneath the log or chase fish around the little brush pile I have set up is very entertaining and somewhat educational. It's good to hear that bass can be "conditioned" to eat flake fish food and pellets. However, as long as I can provide live fish, I will. I really like watching them feed, on both live fish and whatever else I can find on the bass diet. One of my favorite things to do is throw a moth or other large insect inside the tank and watch them go top water crazy trying to catch a flying target. To answer your question, I have 4 bass in my tank and at first they were about 4 or 5 inches when I put them in there...they have grown an inch or two since I put them in in August. I would guess that by next summer I will have to let some (or all) of them go because they will get too big for the tank.
