I have relatives in Rockford who mentioned this Racoon Creek study to me. There is apparently some support for attempting to restore the brook trout population. These relatives also mentioned that there are several creeks in the area that are cold year round. Interesting.
Even so, I think it's a pipe dream to wish for good trout fishing in our area. Trout were never meant to be here. I personally think the stocking of catch-and-kills anywhere in NE Illinois is just silly. They should just hand them out to anyone who's hungry- 5 to each. Fishing for them is one very small step above trout farms. People following DNR trucks around waiting for them to dump the meat. I wonder if they've designed flies that look like fish pellets. It's not trout water. Let's focus our efforts on the fish that are supposed to be in there. Believe me, they need some help. Especially in regs and enforcement.
My 14 cents. Not to ruffle anyone's fins, I hope.
