hey bob, leave that corn alone! seriously, i fish for carp w/ bait(bankfishing european style) when i'm too bored in the summer and i have since taken up a quest for them on the fly with no luck. i've tried like crazy to sight fish for them in the lake with absolutely no luck(i've caught them unintentionally though...). what i've learned (i think)is that carp HAVE to be in the mood to eat something that you put in front of them(for visual presentations- and i won't comment on the other kind), which in the lake isn't very buggy(or consistenly enough to talk about). this is different in elevenmile res. in colo., where i met some guys that travel there every year instead of belize to fish for carp on the fly because they responded well to traditional flies. in the tribs., i think its different because scent and visuals become "watered down" by currents and, when i've caught them, there were large concentrations...consequently i think its easier to get them to take normal flies, as they become a bit more opportunist in their feeding...(if you must chum, please use a yellow foam "corn fly" suspended 1" off the bottom with the foam tied to the BEND of the hook...lol). i have deep suspicions about the success of the weed gaurd, but in any case, report your findings...good luck!
