Most of the time I use a 5 wt. 9 footer. I have used as heavy as a 7 wt., and as light as a 3 wt. I use floating line with at least a 7 1/2 foot leader. Attached to to this is a 3-5 ft. length of tippet. Flourocarbon is best. I use a 6lb tippet usually, but have used as heavy as 12lb. This depends on where I am fishing. The presentation has got to be pretty delicate in the rivers that I fish so the I like the 5 wt. best. The reel is also very important. I purchased a large arbor this fall, and look forward to seeing how it works.
