I hope i'm not letting too big of a cat out of the bag, but, the state of Il dnr has a limited stocking of trout in Piscasaw Creek which runs between Harvard and Rockford, Illinois and empties into the Kiswaukee River ("River of the Clear Waters") on it's way to the Rock River.
The "Pis" is as close to a sw county stream as your going to find in the prairie state. it's small, bushy and difficult to wade. But after, the initial on-slaught of worm anglers, some of the browns take up residence in the holes and cut banks and can provide challenging and itty-bitty creek fun fly fishing.
It ain't easy, but it can be done. The mosquitos can be fierce.
look on mapqusst between Harvard and Rockford. Start at the town of Chemung, Il.
Hey we're fly guys: gotta share.
