About 2 hrs south of Chi between Urbana and Danville. Really a very pretty
state park - reclaimed strip mine pits. Great spot for canoe fishing but some of
it's shore fishable. A stretch of the Vermillion River is very close as well. Search the
IL DNR's Web site for info and location.
Have fun, Ian
: Thanks for the info. If you don't mind, where is Kickapoo SP? Thanks.
: : Or they're greenie/bluegill hybrids. A friend of mine caught a HUGE one
: : at Kickapoo state park - I thought it was a little bass until I got a look at him.
: : He released him and I almost wish that we took him to a certified scale because
: : if it wasn't a record it must've been close. Kickapoo's a nice place for flyrodding
: : for panfish - check it out some time.
: : Ian
: : : Pete,
: : : Thanks. I think you may be correct. I printed out the specie ID on sunfish/bluegill and I'll take it with next time. Either way I like 'em! They hit hard and fight hard, not bad.
: : : : : Got out Sat evening for about an hour and a half with my 5wt. I was using a sample popper that a tyer in PA sent me, thanks Ron L., in hopes of me buying more. Well this popper was everything I hoped for. I was catching 1/2 to 3/4 pound gills the whole time on this thing. They liked it so much that after an hour of using it, it was all used up. Destroyed in about an hour, the same time it takes to get glasses... ;-)! It was a great evening!
: : : : : Now I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer: I'm catching what appear to be gills. I say appear because they do, except that they're not as tall as a gill, they have some white squiggly lines going down the sides of their face, they're longer and broader and their mouth is closer to a bass' mouth than a bluegills, but otherwise have all the other markings of a gill. Any clues? I'm thinking Warmouth bass? Is there such a spiecie, or a version of it? Either way that's mostly what I was catching. I was also catching some NICE gills with them. All this out of a little retention pond behind my house, incredible. Thanks for any info forwarded.
: : : : : Good fishing!
: : : : T, I think those are green sunfish.
