In my experience, early spring pre-spawn has produced some of the easiest big largemouth (and smallmouth). The weeds are down and the bass are hungry and easy to find/cooperate. Spinnerbaits work well.
You're asking the right question a few posts above concerning buzzbaits, the summer can also produce some "biguns" - and topwater evenings, until, and after dark will up your odds. I like plastic worms too - whatever time of day.
If you're looking for the summertime hawg, stick to topwaters around dusk. Work the weed edges with frogs and buzzbaits. You'll open up a can o' whoopass in no time.
Good Fishing.
