Contrary to what you may think, I do go fishing a lot. Some of it is on the water; some of it is on the computer. I do not mean one of those bass fishing games. Usually I just fish around the computer enough to get a good tip on a place or a presentation and then I head for the water. Lately I have hit on something that I want to pass along to you. The nice part is that the location is public and almost everybody knows the technique.
My Secret Lake: http://chicagolandfishing.com/wwwboard-forest/wwwboard.html
Best Time: anytime.
Secret Lure: I use water temperature as a buzzbait.
Success: Phenomenal. Always get bit. Sometimes two or three on the same cast.
Presentation: Do nothing. Just throw out the topic and let it set. Sometimes there are barely detectable nibbles from curious ones. But usually a big one comes charging out of nowhere and busts it going full bore. Sometimes I vary the presentation working the topic as a comment, quotation, or reply to a question. It also can help if I throw the bait near a spot where I see some activity and give it a big twitch. Then my lure really gets busted.
FAQs:
Will this bite ever end? So far this presentation has been holding up almost as well as the fall buzzbait bite. I do admit that I may be overworking it. Now that my secret is out, if a lot of people start trying it, it will not work like it used to.
Any other downsides to using this technique? Well, as you might suspect, it is potentially addictive. It is starting to cut in to my on water time. I am trying Bass Master magazine as a "patch" to break the habit.
Do you advocate practicing catch and release? Always. This bait would really devastate the population if I did not. Remember the “Worthless Fishing Report” feeding frenzy about two months ago. Everything went after that. I retired that lure for fear that the lake would get fished out.
Take my advice. When you cannot get out on the water to fish, fish the net:-) Use moderation though;-)
And always catch and release.
