Youre right....there are good crappies in the lake....but I usually catch them off the boat docks.....one day....my friend and i were fishing off the boat docks and the ranger took all our crappies....we were so pissed off....so we rented a boat and anchored right next to the docks and caught twice as many as we had off the docks.....they were hitting on slip bobber and minnows....the ranger had no say in the fishing we were doing now....but he sure was pissed off when we showed him all the fish we had caught.

: Fished blackwell from 7:15-8:30~~slip bobber set at 4 ft with fatheads,9or10 crappie from 5in-8in,and tons of bass in the 1lb range.Blackwell can be alright for crappie at times for a heavily pressured lake if you fish on the weekdays, and fish towards dusk.In a previous post guys were talking about pike in blackwell, back in 98 a gentleman pulled out a 14lb, I think 34 in pike not to bad,the fish was caught ice fishing with a tip-up using lg golden roaches for bait deadly!I've had my best luck catching them there ice fishing, and just after ICE OUT.
