: : Does anyone know when the trout lakes, both in Dupage (Blackwell and Deep Quarry) and Cook (Axehead and Bellau) close for the stocking? I remember Axehead used to have a decent crappie population and I was thinking of trying there if it is still open.
: : Thanks in advance
: I believe they stock the trout around the latter part of March. This is done so when the lakes open in early April you need a 1999 license(and trout stamp). As far as Axehead and Crappies go, I'm not too sure. I've always heard that Axehead had a great Perch population. Good luck....

I live near Axehead and fished once this ice this season..I only got a few Crappies. I stopped by there a few times to check on the action, and found nobody doing exceptionally well. From what I heard the perch were slow thru the ice this year. The lake does produce some good crappie action sometimes, and the Cook County Lake Surveys you can check out on this page agree. Although I live by the lake, I don't fish it very much... People tell me the north side of the lake(by the inlet/railing) can be a good spot for Crappie. I see guys using minnows on slip floats...Good Luck.
