I've been a real slacker this spring. This time last year I already had several nice smallies under my belt. I guess I just haven't caught spring fever yet. Saturday I attended Ed and Mike's "Fishing the Rivers" seminar, and got all fired up to do some fishing. I spent the rest of the day after the seminar cleaning up my neighborhood and the surrounding ponds, from which I got five garbage bags full of trash, but was able to recycle about 70% of it.
Anyway, the sun was getting low and I grabbed my baitcaster and headed to a local pond. I still had the same lure on that I caught my last largemouth of 1998 on, a 1/4 ounce chartreuse skirt Strike King spinnerbait, with a gold willowleaf blade. One the very first cast straight out into the pond about 25 ft., I caught an 18" largemouth. I could not believe it. I would've thought it was too cold still for a fast moving spinnerbait, and usually would've tried a jig and pig, but I guess I'm lucky I was too lazy to switch.
Good Fishing.
