Snapping turtles

Has anyone else come across any big dead snapping turtles this spring? So far I've seen a big 20 pounder (approx.) on the bank at the Fox River, and last night I saw another big one dead at a pond by my house. They both appeared to be in perfect condition. I recently read that when there is a deep freeze and heavy snow cover they can start to suffocate under the ice while in hibernation. I've never seen any dead ones before, other than ones hit on the road. Just curious if anyone else has seen any.
