I echo your remembrance of fishing the Lemont quarries many years ago. You cannot park on the side of the road anywhere that I am aware of. The main road into this area is private for a chemical company, with gate and guard. And technically, the area is signed as "no tresspassing" per the Metropolitan Water Reclamation folks. There is a walking trail that skirts by it though, and I "accidentally" went the wrong way, and walked around the quarries last fall. There were a couple of folks fishing, but they were not having any luck. It sure brought back memories to see the place though. Wish I could be of more help, but that's about all I know.
