That all depends on both what kind of fishing you want to do, and what fish you are going after. Every size and type of rod has an application that it works best forand reels are the same way. You don't want to verticle jig for walleyes with a 7 ft mh baitcaster, and you don't want to pitch and flip jig into trees and brush piles with a light action spincast.
