If you're doing most of your fishing with crankbaits and other artificial stuff , if you do a lot of fishing from a boat, or if you fish exclusivly for largemouth and northern, then you could consider getting yourself a baitcaster.
If you're mostly a shore fisherman, using natural baits and want to be able to fish for different species using different presentations, you'll be better off with a medium action spinning rod. I once experimented with a baitcaster for a while and concluded that a spinning rod&reel combination is more versatile.
Besides you may want to consider that buying a good baitcasting rod and reel could become a bit more expensive than buying a good medium action spinning rod and reel.
