A special thanks to the Starved Rock Area Bank Anglers for putting this contest together! Also, another thanks to Derek(NWMA) for helping out(and laughing at our struggle with the fuzzies) Two, 3 hour heats on different sections of the canal were fished and Mick Thill won heat 1 & 2 to lock up 1st overall. Good job Mick. I finished 4th & 2nd to finish 2nd overall and Penny Smit finished 3'rd & 6th?? to finish 3rd overall.
As far as I know, no Carp were caught! I also believe they spawned last week. The 1st heat was 99.9% gills with a few small Bass making up the rest. Some of the gills were good size(around 8'') and were on both sides of the bank. The 2nd heat was moved past the 1st bridge where the water was narrower and more Carp usually hold out. Fishing was tough, and I mean tough ;-( Cottonwood everywhere and less gills. I beleive Mick had 15lbs of gills in the first heat and only managed 1 catfish and 6? gills in the second(and he won that heat) I also caught 1 cat and 6 gills(fishing peg next to Mick) and the person to next to me caught a cat, for the only three catfish caught.
Hope everyone is having a good Memorial Day weekend.
