The lake is still frozen over but the dam areas are open. Water is extremely clear and the levels are down. Hardly any fishing pressure. Fished downstream from the dam for a couple of hours yesterday and today until sunset.
The only bite yesterday was from a 14 inch walleye caught in clear water in bright sunshine near shore on a plain jig and chartreuse twistertail. Nothing at all on small crankbaits or spinners.
Luck today was a little better, the wind was blowing and created some current in the area. 3 walleyes today(14,16 and 15 inches) between 3:30 and 5:00, caught on a blue/white small thunderstick thrown in the current and practically held still near the dropoff. Amazing that the fish are still willing to hit crankbaits in January. This is the latest (or earliest) in the year that I've ever tried fishing with them.
