I was out on Pistakee Lake on Saturday morning. I was one of the few fools that
stood out in the rain to ice fish, but it paid off. I didn't bring my shanty
because I wanted to be very mobile and knew that I would stay put had I brought
it, with the rain and all.

Anyway, I'm glad that I went out that morning because the crappie action was near
the best I've ever seen. (both quality and quantity)I got on the ice at 7am and
by 8:30am I'll bet that I had 60 fish all between 10"and 14" and I even managed
to land a 15" slab that I just barely was able to pull through my 6" hole. The
neat thing was that the bigger slabs were just under the ice (2' to 4' down).
If you didn't have a flasher, you would never had seen those jumbo's swimming by.

There were other fish down there on the bottom, probably whites and cats but, I
didn't even bother trying to catch them because I would rather catch crappie all
day if I could. All my action was done in 20' of water with the majority of the
fish hitting between 2' to 10' down.

Besides the 10 fish that I kept to eat, all the rest went back to be battled
another day. By the way, if you can believe it, I didn't use a single piece of
live bait all day. I used only a jig. Man were they aggressive.

Well, hope the ice holds up through this warm weather predicted this week. It
would be a shame not to get out there again a few more times.

Dave
