: I was out on Pistakee Lake on Saturday morning. I was one of the few fools that
: stood out in the rain to ice fish, but it paid off. I didn't bring my shanty
: because I wanted to be very mobile and knew that I would stay put had I brought
: it, with the rain and all.
: Anyway, I'm glad that I went out that morning because the crappie action was near
: the best I've ever seen. (both quality and quantity)I got on the ice at 7am and
: by 8:30am I'll bet that I had 60 fish all between 10"and 14" and I even managed
: to land a 15" slab that I just barely was able to pull through my 6" hole. The
: neat thing was that the bigger slabs were just under the ice (2' to 4' down).
: If you didn't have a flasher, you would never had seen those jumbo's swimming by.
: There were other fish down there on the bottom, probably whites and cats but, I
: didn't even bother trying to catch them because I would rather catch crappie all
: day if I could. All my action was done in 20' of water with the majority of the
: fish hitting between 2' to 10' down.
: Besides the 10 fish that I kept to eat, all the rest went back to be battled
: another day. By the way, if you can believe it, I didn't use a single piece of
: live bait all day. I used only a jig. Man were they aggressive.
: Well, hope the ice holds up through this warm weather predicted this week. It
: would be a shame not to get out there again a few more times.

Hi Dave -
I was out on Saturday morning also. The rain impacted by ability to move my hands. I did not have a shelter either. However, even when you have your rain proof jacket on while you are sitting on your chair or 5 gallon bucket all of the water runs onto your hands. I figured since the temperature was going to be in the low 40's no need to bring along the heater. Big mistake, which I will not forget for a long time.
I hope the ice stays put for a little while longer, it would definetely be a shame to miss out on this opportunity because of cold hands.
I bet that we may have crossed paths on Saturday AM. If you would like to verify, send me a email. I may try to go out again during the week, if not hopefully on Saturday.
Happy Fishing
Doug
