: Ed and I fished Pistakee again today in the rain filled morning and then thru the blue bird windy afternoon. To say the a.m. was better than the p.m.would be a gross understatement. The a.m. bite wasn't hot and heavy but consistent with a variety of species on the bite up till 11a.m. The afternoon was very slow. I tried the plastic nail tails on a 1/64oz jig below my homemade jig, and for me anyway they both produced just about even results side by side. Actually cutting a small thin piece from a twister tail worked better then the nail tail. Glow and orange for the colors of my teardrops and charteuse and white for the added plastic on the jig. I also used spikes on both jigs for most of the day. I didn't get a final count on Ed's totals so he'll have to post them...I caught 43 nice size black crappies, 7 catfish, 4 drum, and a bunch of small white and yellow bass. Watch one guy bring in about a 4lb cat. We each kept about 10 crappies for a meal this trip. Once again the active crappies were up high from 8-15 feet down over 22-24 feet of water, the cats & drum from 15-20 feet down and the stripers on the bottom to 1 or 2 feet up. The main lake pad of ice is in good shape with close to a foot of ice in some places with maybe 6" the least we saw in a few spots...the shorelines are BAD and getting worse almost hourly it seemed. I can understand how Richies son took a bath on sunday walking the planks at Oak Park. The boards sink down into the water when your in the middle of them and are very SLIPPERY WHEN WET!!! Be careful!
----------------
39 crappies for me, about 9 of them whites, 5 channel cats, and a mess of white bass including one 13 incher. Yesterday morning was more productive due to the fog I believe. It allowed the morning bite to last a tad longer.
