One thing people don't realize or understand is how good the salmon and trout fishing is in IN. I live in the SW burbs and drive to IN just about every weekend between end of Feb to May to fish IN. Don't get me wrong, Mitchell and all the other hot water discharges are great. One thing most people don't understand is how good the places are between the "Mitchell's". There are a dozen places I fish between the IL/IN state line and Dean Michell. You don't have to fight the crowds, nor walk two miles through mud to get there. Most of the time, these spots are better or just as good as Dean Mitchell or Mich. City. The coho pack themselves in the SE corner of the Lake during these months. Not to mention great brown and steelie fishing. If you like to bait fish, use one of three things...alewives, crawlers, or squid 3'-5' under a bobber. If you like lure fishing, try small Cleos, KO wobblers, rapalas(gold/silver/orange). For the past many years I have used a long steelhead rod with 4# test. I prefer using bait under a bobber. There are some days where you can go out and easily catch 20+ fish. Trust me, there have been plenty of goose-eggs as well.
Good Fishing and Catching,

: last year the coho started in feb at deano's. let's post reports early before the papers do. i hate the crowds. northeast winds turn the browns on at waukegan-has anyone fished there lately? the 1-847-244-9876 hotline is not updated frequently enough to be of any use to anyone. take note salmon stop. browns off the pier and steelhead in the fast water of the discharge are the targets here. good and bad reports are encouraged to post.
