: oh yeah, has anyone ever seen a green smallmouth?I caught one last week that was 17 inches.it was green and sort of silver, like a largemouth but with no stripes or spots.it had everything else like a smallmouth including the fight.someone told me it was a hybrid largemourh/smallmouth called a (meanmouth).anyone heard of or seen this before?
: The fishin's good, whether you catch 'em or not.

Jim,
Although I seem to recall hearing something of a meanie hybrid I dont think thats what you caught, Bass (smallies & lrgmth)are famous for their chamilian abilititys, if the water color changes so do they, that is... if the water is muddy for extented periods, both will change their coloration lossing their striped markings for a more overall silvergreen apperance, I fish a little pond in Orland that is like fishing in Bosco, the lrgmth there are almost markingless, just a pale light green( I think it adds them in there feeding, all those pretty stripes would stand out, with clearer the water & more ambush feeding, the more pronounced their markinsgs become. Also..being one the spawn the smallies coloring changes too, I caught one on the Cal last week that was almost black, Of course all of this info( like most of my posts) is based on personal obsevation & has no scientific fact I can qoute you to back it up. It's good to hear your catching em regular like! maybe I'll see you out there!
