North to Northwestern Smallie Report Headed north today to see if I could find new water on the big pond. Put in at Burnham Harbor and started fishing north with the Perchmann as my partner. Can't believe he out fished me today. Boy can he catch rockbass? LOL, His was first to nail a 3 pound smallie and by the time I nailed one he had three in the boat. I had a handicap. "The trolling motor." With the high winds today it was hard to keep the boat off the rocks and under control. I did manage to catch my own limit even with the handicap.
Fish and move, fish and move. By the end of the day we found ourselves in Evanston fishing the Northwestern University shore. Rocks and sand every where you looked there was rock and sand. Tried all kinds of bait and had the best results with the old standby. A tube bait. The fishing was slow but the view was specie at times. We found one spot that we fished until she left. By the way, we did try to give her more fishing line to wear.
Even with the weather conditions, Big bows in your line, and the soft bite we did manage to find some new water and some above average smallmouth. Also found a spot that held largemouth. But they had no size to them.
Perchmann did manage the big smallie for the day. A stud of a fish that weigh-in at 3.84 lbs. Maybe that picture will turnout? "Go early, Stay late, Be safe." Edward D. Bohn
