: So I got out of work and went over to the launch yesterday. As I'm approaching the ramp another boat comes out of the parking lot ahead of me.I wait, then I back my boat down the center. There's a very excited young fellar in the boat egarly anticipating taking 5 or 6 of his young friends out for an afternoon of boating. They were all young kids going out joy riding. The kid gets his boat out into the water and just as I'm about to float off my trailor I hear a (poof).
: I look behind me and the transom area of the kids boat was on fire.He walks up to the bow freightened and confused.I shout to the others on the dock if they needed my extinguisher. They ignore me.The boat is slowly drifting toward the dock and then the kid jumps into the water. The boat was at a full blaze about 5 seconds later as all watched in horror. There was nothing left of their boat. It's amazing how fast it burned up.I know I don't need to tell all of you to make sure you have a fully operable fire extingusher ready to go.You really have to act fast to put it out.Imagine if they were all on the boat!Lucky and unlucky at the same time.
: Anyway. We went out fishin'.We caught some medium sized lg mouth. And then the smallies started biting.Oh boy, what fun.My girlfriend hooked a bigger smallmouth than I ever caught and 3 seconds later I hooked a bit of a smaller one.Once I landed and released mine I went to lip hers and just as she noticed it was barely hooked the football shaped bronzeback went byebye.I wish we could have measured it.It had to be 5 pounds. Then,a minute later I hooked something big.Very big.It stripped lots of line but never surfaced.I'm guessing it was a large carp.If not it was a world record smallmouth.I sure hope it was a carp because if I found out it was a giant bass I'd be really pissed off at myself for not re-tying after 5 or 6 fish. You guessed it,the fish broke the line.
: And if that all wasn't enough,I freakin' ran out of gas on the way back!Sure is a long ride home on the trolling motor. Many lessons learned today.Well, atleast we caught some nice fish.Be safe and responsible folks.Jim

Jim,
Sounds like you had one interesting day! We heard the commotion over the ship to shore, Alsip FD rescue & Calumet C-G communications, good to hear nobody was hurt! As for your mystery fish, if you were fishing Lake Cal I think it may have been a drum, I fought one for about 10 minutes last week & never got a look at it, I figure it had to go 10-12 lb as I caught a smaller one (about 5 lb) on the very next cast.
perchmann.
PS. never try to outfish a woman, I dont think it cant be done. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with scent or pheromones or something....
