: : I was out today and only a few boats which was surprising for the nice day and a Holiday too. Launched from Leftys at 7:00 AM on 15 Feb and went right to Baileys Hot Water Discharge and the Doughnut. Got a total of 7 browns , 1 steelhead and 1 coho and about 30 big (2 to 4 lb.) shad in the shallow water of the discharge. We had a ball. Once you got into about 3 to 4 ft of water you couldnt make a cast without hooking a big shad and was it fun. They acted like little tarpon jumping all over. If one got off you hit another one. Did try in the Port but was kinda rough but went to the Hot Water discharge and got 3 more browns there. A lot of shore fisherman but dont know if they were doing any good. Also anchored in the mouth of the Ditch and never had a hit. Saw one troller get 1 coho in the mouth of the ditch about 1230 PM. We left at 1:00 PM.Next nice day I will do it again. Boy its nice to be retired. You can go out on all the good days, and not have to hope you have good weather on your days off. Best baits today was a gold Doctor Spoon, #2 blue fox Silver spinner with White Hair on Hook and Chartruese Jig and Twister Tail [ 3 in] in 1/8 and 1/2 oz sizes.

: What kind of boat do you need to get out there? My brother and I have been
: fishing in his 18' deep vee, but we haven't taken it on Lake Michigan yet.

I have a 16 and 1/2 foot Sylvan Super Snapper, deep and wide, 40 hp outboard. Only go out on the nice days and at this time your fishin g right close to shore so as long as you have a south or a south east wind your in good shape. Baileys power plant is 4 or 5 miles east of the ditch but you can fish the whole area . Later in the year its skamania and later Chinook and in nov and dec its lake trout right on shore.
