Usually by midsummer the majority of the baitfish have moved out of the bays and into deeper midlake structure like deep weedlines, deep points off of the mainlake and midlake reefs and humps. The big fish will usually follow them out there. Try trolling the deep weedlines along the side of the islands that face the mainlake basin for bigger pike and musky. The rock reefs and midlake areas for walleyes. The best way to stump an Eagle Lake guide in midsummer is to ask him to take you smallie fishing. They seem to disappear like ghosts after mid June and are a difficult fish to catch in this lake during summer. By the middle September they usually start reappearing again. So if you plan on targeting smallies and mainly smallies you may want to try a different lake or go at an earlier or later time of the year. Occasionally a fish or two will show up per week but aren't common in the summer. What side of the lake is Big Trail resort located on? The Western or Eastern arm?
