It is important to keep constant contact with your thumb on the spool. Once you get the hang of how much pressure to use you'll have it. If you hit an overhead tree limb or the bait stops suddenly you'll get a backlash almost every time. The bait should drop at a slow rate when you release the spool and keep your thumb off. Adjust your spool every time you change your bait due to the differences in weight.
