Winter has shown her ugly face again, and since we have not much to do but wait and finish up the honey dew list i thought i would start getting my gear ready for the spring trip.Tonight i came upon my favorite trick in canoe camping and i was curios if anybody Knows it.Im not going to come right out and tell everybody what its is.You may have already read it in another post i put up earlier and a lot of you may have missed it.I am not going to say this is my trick, actually its from a guy named Cliff Jacobsen who has written many great canoe camping books.
First a scenario for the trick and then i'll give some clues, lets see if anyone can figure it out.Winner gets a big fat kiss from a flathead cat LOL LOL

The scenario: Your going on a canoe camping trip this spring, it's a boundary waters type trip where you have to make numerous long portages with backpack and canoe. No coolers, just freeze dried food to lessen the weight. You only get one Backpack for all your gear. You have heard of a great fishing lake with many islands in the middle of this structure filled lake. You have a map but you really need to bring a depth finder and 2 anchors to fish it efficently but theres no way you can carry that much extra weight and take up that much more pack space. How do you take these items?
The 1st Clue: The two anchors and the depth finders cost less than ten dollars!
The 2nd Clue: all three items fit into a small nylon bag the size of a 16"softball.
Final clue: They actually only add less than a pound to your backpack during portages.
OK how many canoe campers out there know this trick! Or boy scouts for that matter. I will check back and see if anybody gets this one.Have fun dont hurt the noodle thinking to hard. Kevin Dells
