I have heard of alka seltzer or putting pop rock candy in tubes to attract smallies. I read it in an In- Fisherman article. Haven't tried it yet. It sounds like it works in high/cloudy water conditions. Reloading probably is an issue, it doesn't take long for an alka seltzer to fizz out.
