Kayaking the kish

Hi everyone. I just bought an inflatable kayak off of ebay. I was thinking of starting out on the kishwaukee river. I live in Rockford next door to the Blackhawk f.p. so I was thinking of getting dropped off in belvidere and getting out at blackhawk. Does anyone know much about how deep/shallow/obstacles etc. this stretch of river is? Any other recommendations of where to practice? Rock cut?
