I was reading the new 2002 IL fishing regulations the other night and realized that a slot limit is in effect for bass on the Kish. I never keep bass, but its good to know in case you see others not following the rules. The regulations states the Fortom Dam to Oregon Dam (includes all tributaries within the zone) has a slot limit in effect for Large or smallmouth bass. 12"-16" protected slot length limit(no possesion). 1 fish over 16" and 2 fish under 12" daily creel limit. The tributaries that fall within this zone would include the Kish, killbuck, Kent Creek, and Leaf River. All of these tributaries(and other smaller tributaries) fall under this special managment zone. Now that you know the rules feel free to report any violations to 1-877-236-7529 = 1-877-2DNR-LAW.
Kevin, the next time you accidently dump over someone's bucket tell them you just saved them $75.00 a bass. Also the Kyte river flows into the rock river below the Oregon Dam but before the Rt 2 bridge at Grand Detour. This would put this tributary in the 100% catch and release management zone for both large and smallmouth bass.
