No Cull - Indiana has a no-cull law.
Let me say one thing about fishing Indiana waters for our CRBT tournaments. We have a 14 inch length limit for this reason. Also a creel limit of six fish. As far as I know you can still keep three smallmouth over 14 inches from Indiana waters as long as you possess a valid Indiana fishing licenses. Two anglers in the boat means that team can possess six smallmouth. As far as the C&R regulations on Illinois smallmouth/largemouth from Lake Michigan, CRBT obtains permits from the Illinois DNR for each tournament. Again we hold to the 14 inch length limit and three smallmouth or largemouth for each angler. Illinois also has the river stream act on smallmouth which falls on the Calumet River. That regulation states that an angler can only possess three smallmouth fourteen inches or greater.
In our CRBT tournaments we also pin any Lake Michigan largemouth or any Calumet River smallmouth so we know were to release these fish. All Lake Michigan Fish are released back into Lake Michigan and the river fish back to the river. We state that in our application when we apply for the tournament permits to the Illinois DNR. We do this because we care to keep this fishery health. Not because the Illinois DNR tell us too. In fact were trying to get it into the application so it is mandatory that these fish are released back to the proper lakes or river.
You say that were rude as tournament anglers? I'm sure that like any other sporting events you have your few that are, But most are just like you. They enjoy to fish, but like to test themselves against other angler for prizes.
We are not the only tournament circuit that is fishing these same areas. We at CRBT try to set high standards that other tournament circuit we hope would follow. We attend other wiegh-ins and see how these fish are treated and released. We report our findings to the Illinois DNR. We go as far as to report creel studies for each tournament at the end of the season. We do this to keep our DNR informed about this fishery. We follow the regulations by both states to the letter, no exceptions.
WE CARE!
